Using a meditation timer can come in real handy when you’re trying to meditate. Concentrating is hard enough without having to worry about how much time has passed while you were meditating. Especially because you’ll usually experience a little bit of time distortion while you meditate–10 minutes can feel like and hour and vice versa.
A meditation timer allows you to keep yourself focused on your meditation, and not on how much time is passed or whether or not you’re going to be late for work.

If you’d like a physical meditation timer for your meditation space, take a look at these the Zen Alarm Clock.
It features a countdown timer that’s great for meditation practice. The chime it makes is a lot less disturbing than say, an egg timer. The chime starts very softly and works its way up to a louder chime until you turn it off.
